My Parents' Visit

My parents were out for a visit on the weekend of Martin Luther King's birthday. They got here the Thursday night before and left the following Tuesday morning. We had a great time. The weather was beautiful, with each sunny day reaching the high 70s or low 80s, unseasonably warm even for us. Here are a few highlights. Regrettably, I didn't get any good shots of my parents during their visit. Next time I will make a better effort at that!

On Friday we rode Phoenix's new light rail! It was a lot of fun. We Arizonans are happy to finally have a mass transit system we can be proud of.

Another day we went to Tucson...

The San Xavier Del Bac Mission is absolutely beautiful. It is nicknamed the "White Dove of the Desert". They are restoring it, so I think that is why the top of the tower on the right is down right now.

Inside the church...

The old wooden doors

A roadrunner we saw

Downtown Tucson

Anyone else want 80 degree days? Come on down and see us! (Well, wait a few more weeks, it's cold again...not Michigan or Maryland cold, but cold for us.)

Read This Book (if you want to...)

I just finished reading Three Cups of Tea. I bought it awhile back because I thought it looked good, then it got stuck in a drawer for awhile. I finally pulled it out and read it this past week and loved it. I am not much of a reviewer of books, but if you are looking for a well-told, true account of an amazing person who fought to make the lives of thousands of people better, this is the book for you . It also gives amazing insight into some of the tribes and cultures that make up Pakistan and Afghanistan. It is very inspiring. I think Costco has it for $8.99. Anyway, you won't be sorry if you take the time :)

The Picture

Sorry this took so long. I know you guys don't judge about stuff like this, and would have posted it with the original post, but I wasn't sure you would get the full effect of the larger, glossy version that was on the cards. If you believe it, I haven't been able to check my blog since I posted last. I went back to work a week ago yesterday, so that was a little crazy, then our Internet at home was down all weekend. We had to have a guy come out this morning and look at it, and it turned out the cable was damaged on the outside of our house. So, we are back up and running again. Hopefully you can enlarge the picture by clicking on it. I'll have to scan the card at some point, it was cute, other than the dirt. It has a cactus decorated for Christmas- very Arizona.

A Formal Appology

I never got Christmas cards out this year. I had some made with a photo that I thought was really cute, but when I got them, Shayne's shirt was dirty...it didn't look that way when I saw the preview on the computer screen, but on the cards it was quite obvious. So I thought, "Do I really want to advertise the fact that my kids are dirty half the time?" I decided I didn't. I was thinking of all of you though, and I really enjoyed the cards I got. Maybe we'll send out a Valentine's Day card...
