Your Election Day Experience

Most of know I have been following this Presidential race closely for almost 2 years now, as a lot of people have. Anyway, it promises to be quite a day tomorrow, with record numbers of people showing up at the poles. I would love to hear about your voting experience. If you voted, I would like to know if you voted early or on election day. If you voted on election day, what time of day did you go to your polling place and how long did you wait? What was the mood there? If you didn't vote, why didn't you? Anyway, I will let you know how things went for me tomorrow. I would love to hear any feedback you have :)

Your dad and I got up early and decided that we should go ahead and vote early. We went to our polling place at Paint Branch Elementary School and got in line at about 6:30, a half an hour before the polls opened. The line behind us probably tripled before the opening. There was a separate line for handicapped people where they could sit down but many partially disabled people brought chairs to sit in while they waited. We finished voting a little after 8:00 and the line behind us was about an hour and a half line as we left. I checked to make sure Alison's name was on the registered voter's list when I was at the check in desk because she did not receive her voter registration card. It was so when I got home I watched the kids so she could go vote. I think I'll wait until tomorrow to check the results because I don't think that exit polls are accurate anymore. It was good to see so may people participating in the process. We usually wait about 10 minutes.

P.S. Sorry about the typos. This was the 9th presidential election I've voted in, the first in 1972 (you had to be 21 to vote then). I don't think I've missed a congressional election either.

Due to my knee surgery, I requested an absentee ballot and mailed it back the day I received it. It took more than 3 weeks to get it. Peter just left (10:15) for the polls. I'll let you know how his experience was. I have voted in every election since I was 21, and never missed congressional election as well. My hope for the next presidential cycle is that it doesn't go on for two years - I think people get tired of hearing the same things over and over again. I also hope that during the next election period, people take the time to really study the issues and the "false and negative" claims made by both candidates. I don't think I've ever experienced an election like this before, and I know I have never met so many people who were undecided so close to election date. I think that says a lot about both candidates. And, hopefully, when the next female candidate decides to run, she will be judged on the things she stands for, and not what the pundits and media think she stands for. It would be refreshing to size up all the candidates on the things that really matter.

I voted early. I even kept my sticker and got my free Starbucks this morning!
My girls (and also my students) loved the Kids Voting experience at school. Fun!
I have voted in every election since I turned 18 (even doing absentee ballots while I was in college). I think my mom really grilled it into us what a privilege it is to vote.

I don't get to vote since I am only a permanent resident, but I plan on remedying that before the next election. :) My hubby always goes and votes for our family though. In fact, registering in Utah to vote was one of the first things he did when we moved here.

I went right when the polls opened in the morning and the line was so long that I decided to come back later. When I went, with both boys around 10:45, I didn't wait at all. We were in and out in around 15 minutes. We even walked and enjoyed our 70 degree fall weather!

we took all the kids, when we got to the polling place the kids were discussing who I could vote for, and Greg said "Mom, you can choose Batman, Skippy John Jones, Hannah Montana or the Jonas Brothers" ...(they had an election in their school and those were the canidates!) I choose skippy John Jones...it's been awhile since we had a cat for president!

they loved being able to vote with us, despite the fact that in Maryland we know our republican vote really won't matter, I still want them to know how important it is to have an opinion and voice it...
