Homework?
Now that we have been in school for awhile, and most of you all will start in the next few weeks, I would love to hear your thoughts on homework. What do you think of it? What have your experiences been yourself or with your kids? Too much? Not enough? Too hard? Too easy? Depends on the kid? I am interested in this personally and professionally, and have a lot of thoughts of my own on the subject, but would like to read your thoughts first. Also, don't forget to vote in the poll on the subject!

Interesting question. My opinion is that kids need to something other than homework when they get home. They need to get involved in sports or scouts or something like that. Some homework is okay but my experience as a teacher is that the kids who need it don't do it anyway and the kids who do it really don't need it. I also think that TV should be very limited on school nights.
Oops. Let me correct my grammar. My opinion is that kids need something other than homework when they get home.
Well, I haven't gotten to that point yet, so I will let the others speak.
I have to agree with Sister Cynthia, it seems like it is true that those who need it don't do it anyway, & vice versa. As a parent, I definitely thought there was too much homework, & much of it seemed pretty pointless. Now that I homeschool, we don't have that anymore & I have been amazed at how much stress that cut out of my life. (of course, it also cut out another huge stressor for me-- getting her out the door on time, but that is another story.)Time management has never been one of my "gifts". :))
I am also in agreement with Cindy...Alex struggled and struggled with homework, he tends to have a lot of energy, and last year his wonderful teacher decided to cut back on his homeowrk, he went from taking two hours to do it, to 30 minutes.. he actually did much better in school once he had a more balanced life.. I definately think there is to much...
I agree with Cindy and Tammy. Even at Dayle's grade (2nd) there is too much homework. Personally, I struggle with knowing how to explain the process of some things to Dayle, like math for example. I do math different than her teachers teach her and I cannot explain it to her without a huge argument. And she drags her feet about homework. She does not want to come home from school and sit back down and do more school work. But doing it before bed is as much of a headache. There has to be a better way to do this! I dread homework for the upcoming years.
