Rick's First Week on Days

Rick and I have worked opposite schedules since before Shayne was born. The biggest reason for this was so one of us could be home with the kids all the time, which has thankfully happened for the past 8 years. In the summer Maya started all-day kindergarten, so no one really needs to be home all day anymore.

Last Monday Rick switched to working days instead of nights and we are all happy to be living with a more "normal" family schedule in which everyone is at home at night. Although we had time to do things each week as a family before, it is nice to have a lot more time now. In order to make this work, Rick has to get up at 3:45am most days to be out the door by about 4:00. That way I get the kids off to school in the morning and he picks them up. We are all home by 4:00pm or shortly after. So this week we enjoyed having dinner together every night and having Rick with us at Shayne's Running Club race and skateboarding class (more on that later...) So we are all very grateful to have had the flexibility in work schedules to be able to be with our kids a lot during their baby and pre-school years and we are very happy now to be seeing more of each other now.

That's great. I'm sure there will be a period of adjustment but you guys will have so much more time together. Yay!

So you are still on speaking terms? Really, you guys have done a great job of taking care of your children. I'm happy that you will have more family time now.

You guys really are awesome. I don't think I could have survived that for so long. Now if you can just get the kids to cook dinner every night for you, you'll have it made. ;)

That is so great. My sister Carole had the same life for years (until they moved out here.) What a difference it makes to be able to spend more time together. Enjoy. :)
